Card Counting
Card Counting is a system that helps to improve the player's edge by assigning a value or weight to each card and summing these as each new card is dealt face up. Such a count will show when the game is favourable for the player, so that the player can place larger bets and/or make changes in playing strategy.
A card counting player will typically have an edge of 1.5% or less. This will depend on various variables like the card counting system used, skill of the player, and the house rules that the poker room has.
It is normally difficult to find playing conditions that allow the player to get more than a 2% edge against the house, even against single deck games. The player's edge against multi-deck games is generally less than 1%.
The question then remains is whether card counting is considered illegal. Well, usually not. Although the casinos hate card counters and would like you to believe that card counting is illegal and immoral, this system simply uses a greater skills as demonstrated by the player.
