Blackjack Glossary

Some important and commonly used terms in blackjack

Basic strategy:
A simple Blackjack strategy that helps your chances of winning. It doesn’t involve card counting or shuffle counting.
Bet Spread:
This is the difference between high and low bet spreads between players.
Double Down:
When a player doubles his bet before drawing his last card.
Draw:
An additional card received from the dealer.
Hit:
Asking for another card from the dealer in Blackjack.
House Edge:
The advantage the casino has over the player.
Insurance:
When the dealer shows an Ace, the player can place an insurance bet to wager the dealer has blackjack.
Pair Splitting:
This refers to a player splitting up pairs into two separate hands.
Stand:
Also known as stay, this is the term used to signify when a player does not want any more cards.
Surrender:
An option to throw in your hand and only lose half your bet.
